Tank Trouble Tuesday

A fueling facility in Tanknology's Midwest region requested a TankCam® inspection of a 8,000 gallon steel tank to inspect for undesirable conditions or abnormal operating conditions. The facility also requested a TankClean® Remote Video UST Cleaning. The tank held diesel.

Prior to cleaning, the tank bottom contained a build-up of sludge and residual liquid. An area at the top of an endcap and a seam on the tank appeared to be deflected or bent. Oxidation was observed throughout the tank.

Tank Trouble Tuesday

A fueling facility in Tanknology's Gulf Coast region requested a TankCam® inspection of a 10,000 gallon  singlewall steel tank to inspect for undesirable conditions or abnormal operating conditions. The tank held super unleaded.

The inspection revealed that the lining of the tank had failed. The inspection showed widespread cracking and delamination of the lining on the tank bottom, primarily around the STP area. The tank bottom also contained various pieces of debris, including gravel, metal and residue build-up.

Tank Trouble Tuesday

As every tank owner knows, underground storage tanks are major responsibilities. As the tanks age or change hands, UST owners may find it increasingly difficult to know the true conditions of their tanks.

TankCam visual inspections are the perfect tool to determining what's happening inside your tanks, including identifying ingresses, cracks, and deflection, as observed in a Hawaii tank.

Tank Trouble Tuesday

Tanknology recently conducted a Capital Expenditure Planning Program for a large fuel retailer in the USA.

Due to the fact that many tanks in the US are aging out of their 30 year warranties, the goal of the program was to determine which of the more than 1000 tanks should be prioritized for replacement.

Utilizing a TankCam® Inspection, in many cases paired with a Deflection Assessment, the program allowed the company to evaluate structural integrity, corrosion, and the overall condition of each tank.

This post marks the end of a short series exploring the tanks prioritized for replacement during this Capital Expenditure Planning Program.
